PREGNANCY EXAMINATIONS

Preconception Check

Preconception check involves a series of examinations that are necessary in the early stages of pregnancy (up to the 10th week) or even before attempting conception. These examinations, conducted during pregnancy, are usually safe and non-invasive, aiming to minimize the risk of potential health issues for both the mother and the baby.

  • Gynecological ultrasound
  • Colposcopy
  • Cultivation of vaginal fluid

Ultrasounds

An ultrasound is performed:

  • In case of abnormal bleeding
  • For menstrual irregularities

Recurrent Pregnancy Loss

What is recurrent pregnancy loss?

Recurrent pregnancy or miscarriage is the spontaneous loss of pregnancy and usually occurs in the first months of pregnancy (8th-11th week of pregnancy). The frequency of termination of a pregnancy is about 1 in 5 (20%). Terminating three or more consecutive pregnancies is referred to as recurrent pregnancy loss.

Causes of recurrent pregnancy loss include:

  • Genetic factors – chromosomal abnormalities of the parents or the embryo
  • Immunologic factors
  • Metabolic disorders
  • Anatomic abnormalities of the uterus

Sexual activity and physical exercise are two actions that should not be a concern for causing recurrent pregnancy loss! Individualized care is provided for all couples as each couple is unique.
